Oh how exciting!! Aren't their nests a little gross up close? I once found a dove nest and when I looked up close, it had all kinds of dove droppings in there - PLUS (brace yourself) a skeleton of one of the babies that didn't make it.
But they are really cool! Make sure you guard them well so that tree rat doesn't mess with em!
OMD OMD RUUUUUUUUUUBY... that is the BESTEST News... Hummingbirds would NEVER lie to us about spring coming ... the way the Groundhog and the Robins have.. that is soooo exciting!! We used to have killdeers come every year and have their babies, mom loved watching the little ones grow up. But they haven't been back for a few years hugs Bailey, Hazel & Greta
You're so lucky to have your own special visitors! I love hummers. I remember once, about 87 years ago, I still lived at my mom's house. We saw a hummer in the yard visiting her garden. I ran in the house to grab a camera, ran back out, and amazing it was still there! It waited around just long enough for me to snap a photo, then took off.
Those little birds sure are a mystery. How they know to travel so far and yet come back to the same place year after year. I know the same ones come to my place and each year they get more friendly. Why last year they just came right up to my face and fluttered around me saying hello. Thanks for being a friend Sweet William The Scot
Might have to make sure you send us zillions of pics, cos we don't 'ave them over here either :-)
